Supplemental Services Program

Students in grades K-8 may receive supplemental support in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics. Students who qualify will meet with teachers two to three times per week for instruction in addition to the regular classroom. The goal is to strengthen the skills of students who are struggling to meet grade level expectations.

Recommendations for inclusion in this program will be made by classroom teachers. Students are evaluated on a case by case basis using multiple measures. Evaluative criteria that may be used includes:

  • Classroom performance
  • Benchmark assessments
  • State testing including Start Strong and NJSLA
  • MAP Growth
  • Student learning profiles
  • Developmental Reading Assessments (DRAs)

Parents/guardians are notified by letter if their child is eligible for one or both of these services. Instructional groups in this program are considered fluid as progress is continually monitored. Occasionally students will exit the program. If a parent/guardian no longer wants their child to participate, notice needs to be provided in writing to the Curriculum Office.

Individual Reports will be issued during the second and fourth marking periods. These reports will reflect students’ progress in the areas of ELA and/or Math in accordance with the NJ Student Learning Standards. Additional information regarding student development can be obtained by contacting the Supplement Service teachers throughout the school year.

Every student has unique and personal characteristics that shape the way they learn. The Supplemental Service Program aims to provide additional support to directly meet the needs of our learners. Hands-on activities to develop skills and strategies are used to help our students be successful. The small group instructional format is designed to improve proficiencies and build confidence that will transfer to the regular classroom
