504 Plans
Section 504 is the section of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which protects the rights of students with disabilities in programs and activities that receive federal funds. Section 504 requires that Eastampton School District provide a free and appropriate public education (FAPE) to each qualified student with a disability. Under Section 504 a disability is defined as a person who has a mental or physical impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. The purpose of the 504 plan is to provide a full range of reasonable accommodations for the student to participate and benefit from public education (curricular and extracurricular activities). Section 504 is enforced by the US Department of Education, Office of Civil Rights. Should you have any questions or would like to request a 504 plan please contact the 504 Coordinators:
