In Kindergarten Writer's Workshop is a little bit different than some may think! Students are challenged daily to work their way up the stages of young writers. Stage one is the Pre-Phoentic Stage where the student scribbles and writes random letters. The next stage a young writer enters is called the Semi-Phonetic Stage where words begin to be represented by a letter or two! After this stage, when vowels start to appear in words, the child is considered to be in the Phonetic Stage. Lastly, students will begin writing readable words with invented spelling, which is considered the Transitional Stage. I prefer to use daily writing prompts that align with whatever we are learning that specific day! Students are then graded with a rubric on the bottom of the writing page! The kindergarten writing rubric I use can be seen below!
